I started in photography at University Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Here I was to learn to be a medical photographer. I learned black and white processing and printing. I received training in making photos of publicity situations. I soon found out that this was a lot more fun than shooting copy slides for lectures. My mentors there were Dick Gunthorpe and Sidney Lawrence. Dick was the hard nosed teacher and "rules" guy, while Sidney was the creative inspiration and mentor. I was recently discharged from the USAF and had begun college. Photography started as a "job" and evolved into a lifestyle! It continues to be a blessing as I travel to shoot nature photography and meet old friends across our wonderful USA...

Shooting television commercials and doing photography for print ads in the Ad Agency industry allowed me to win several awards and more importantly to grow in my photographic ability.

My final career path before retirement was as owner of several Professional Photo Labs in Birmingham, Nashville, and Atlanta. Again I had a terrific influence as mentor from Peter Chestnut, a former Canadian from Toronto. Interestingly he now writes novels and lives here in Atlanta...
