This image always manages to excite me when I see it! It was photographed several years ago when I first begun to shoot digital with my Nikon D200 camera. Contemporary photographers will understand, but you folks who just enjoy looking at my pictures may not realize it. When you are busy shooting through the viewfinder of a camera the "whole picture" is not always evident. When I pressed the shutter on this image I honestly did not see the fish jumping away from the alligator. The alligator was floating in the water getting a little sunshine and fully relaxed so it seemed to me! At my age my reflexes are no longer that fast. So I had no idea of the drama of the moment until I returned home to Atlanta from Lakeland, Florida and begun to edit my pictures. What a surprise to see the Tilapia jumping out of the way of danger and realizing how close he had come to being the "main course"! Through the years I have had many comments on this image and I feel sure there will be many more to come!
